What Happens if Value is Not Measured
In Jeff Bezos's last shareholder letter as Amazon's CEO on April 15th, he emphasized
…Your goal should be to create value for everyone you interact with. Any business that doesn’t create value for those it touches, even if it appears successful on the surface, isn’t long for this world. It’s on the way out.
So…
How do you make sure you are not on the way out? How do you measure the value you create for your "CEOs" - Customers, Employees, and Ownership?
For employees, measure the total income average per employee to track that it is trending higher.
For your customers, it might be more challenging. How do you make their life easier, save them time, earn more, grow exponentially because of you?
You Measure it.
By measuring, you can be sure you are staying relevant, and the customer will gladly do business with you because of it.
Challenge yourself by asking:
Does your dashboard track value creation?
When you make decisions, are they centered around creating value?
Are you trending up and not down?
Value creation can be the best metric for retention, growth, and innovation.
As a business leader, you know that today's decisions define tomorrow's value. Having a value creation plan has never been more critical. As we advance into the post-pandemic world, this will be perhaps the single biggest business challenge facing every CEO.
